Welcome to Autism Genome 10K
To better understand the genetic causes of autism and accelerate the discovery and development of effective new therapies, Autism Genome 10K will create and analyze the world’s largest library of sequenced genomes of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
"We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Autism Speaks on this groundbreaking research project and are excited about the potential to have a meaningful impact on advancing new treatments for autism spectrum disorder."
-- Prof. Yang Huanming, Chairman of BGI
"Piece by piece, we are discovering genetic mutations that can cause autism and we have learned that genetic findings substantially increase our understanding of the underlying biology of autism. Our ultimate goal is for the information we will gain from whole genome sequencing to contribute to the development of novel effective treatments to improve the lives of individuals impacted by autism."
-- Geraldine Dawson, Ph.D., Autism Speaks Chief Science Officer
How to Support This Initiative?
While the initial pilot sequencing of 100 genomes will be directly funded by Autism Speaks, additional funding is needed to conduct larger scale sequencing. We will seek philanthropic investors who are both visionary and practical, risk-takers and prudent, imaginative and rational. To inquire about funding opportunities, please contact us.
Participate in Research (for families)
Many opportunities are available for researchers or families to participate in autism research. Your participation can make a difference in the lives of all who struggle with autism. Contact us if you would like to join the project.
